    Kanji ISHIWARA Kanji ISHIWARA Kanji ISHIWARA was a Japanese admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. He was born in 1890 in the city of Hiroshima. He graduated from the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy in 1912 and served in a variety of ships and positions throughout his career. He was promoted to admiral in 1941. ISHIWARA was a supporter of the Japanese Navy's plan to attack Pearl Harbor. He was the commander of the Japanese fleet that attacked the Philippines in December 1941. He was also the commander of the Japanese fleet that attacked the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in April 1942. ISHIWARA was a skilled and experienced naval officer. He was also a ruthless and determined commander. He was responsible for the deaths of thousands of American and Filipino soldiers and civilians. ISHIWARA was killed in action in June 1944 during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. He was posthumously promoted to fleet admiral.
