He is eventually killed by Kagehisa, but his death does not go unnoticed. Manji is enraged by Sohachi's death, and he vows to avenge him. He tracks down Kagehisa and kills him in a duel. With Kagehisa's death, the samurai are defeated, and Manji is able to return to Hinokuni. Sohachi's death is a tragic loss, but his sacrifice helps to save the town of Hinokuni. He is a true hero, and his memory will live on forever.
