Your crew mainly does low-level crimes and hoodlum shit, but you have recently linked with a larger alliance, either the "Woo" or "Choo". These two gang alliances are in the middle of a bloody war. It's essentially GTA but in NYC, and it is RPG-like and descriptive. The AI will attempt to counteract powergaming.
